12 Lists of Christmas – Games
Share:
So we’ve had a few lists already, but I think it’s about time we looked at what all us gamers are hoping for under our trees (or in our gift tab on Steam). Here are the top ten games and apps for this year! (According to us.)
1. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – After a painstaking amount of time, it’s finally decided. While fans waited with baited breath for Fallout 4, CDProject Red, creator of The Witcher, won us over with its awe-inspiring story and complex character development. It very recently won Game of the Year, and justly so.
2. Fallout 4 – Not quite making the top spot, it’s still amazing. Less RPG, more shoot things in the face with your personalized rifle named Jerry. A definite gem in the slog that has been 2015. Take to the streets of nuclear Boston in your power armour, and collect as much duct tape as you can. You’ll need it.
3. Dying Light – You will never need to buy another zombie game ever again. It’s very impressive. And pretty intense when the sun goes down – the game completely changes into a horror, and fast. Stealth and parkour are your allies, lest you be subject to the denizens of the night
4. Elite: Dangerous – With the Horizons DLC just around the corner, Elite had certainly grown its own dedicated fan base. The massively open universe space sim is a must-have for space lovers and sandbox explorers. Just don’t crash into any stars!
5. Mad Max – The sandiest sandbox that ever did sandbox, Mad Max is truly a game for the mad. Well, if you’re mad about car combat. Create your own awesome vehicle and take to the wastes to maim, destroy and scavenge the inhabitants of a world gone mad. Note that the game is completely separate from the film, offering a vast world for you to explore at your every whim.
6. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 – Long title for a long game. KOTOR is an old title, given a recent update, including Steam achievements, and some updated textures, but it’s still worth a bash if you’re looking for an immersive and somewhat darker look at the Star Wars universe before the new movie comes out.
7. Bloodborne: The Old Hunters – Ready for more? In this expansion, be prepared for monsters, scares, and horrors beyond imagining. Bloodborne returns with its anticipated DLC. With new weapons and harder bosses, PS4 users will definitely want to pick this up – just be careful you don’t let the beast… consume you.
8. Until Dawn – Covered in our Halloween games list, this instant horror classic is a must-have for Christmas this year. While some of the choices aren’t as far reaching as they seem, this story-thick exclusive is horror and mystique done well. Be ready for surprises, scares and a plot twist about three hours in.
9. Mario Maker – Nintendo’s recent rehash of Mario is actually rather interesting. You can make your own levels, or, like many people have, create someone’s own personal hell. With hundreds of levels uploaded everyday to the WiiU platform, it’s a roaring success from both hardcore fans to level designers.
10. Just Cause 3 – So tell me, why would I want to tether a car to a statue, stick some jet bombs on it, then fly away in my wing-suit? Just cause! Yes, the sequel to Just Cause 2 (obviously) is here, and the franchise has made an explosive return. With 400 square kilometres of open world-y goodness, you have hours of destruction at your finger tips, and explosions are just the beginning. The grapple tethers make for some interesting situations, like attaching a cow to a car and watching it explode. The car… not the cow.
2015 has been an odd year for games. Some good, some bad (quite a lot of bad), but as shown here, there are some real gems in the market. But only for those with a PC or a next-gen console.
Sorry guys.
