While Spider-Man may be on loan to Marvel Studios, Sony is well underway with work on Venom, starring Tom Hardy.

The film is the first of several planned spin-off movies, including a Silver Sable and Black Cat movie which are two of Spider-Man’s lesser-known feminine compadres. The first piece of promotional art has been revealed, coming out of Brazil’s Comic-Con Experience. It features the iconic villain bursting out of a letter V, seen above. The rest reside on Collider.

Tom Hardy will star as Eddie Brock, who becomes a host for the alien parasite known as Venom. The movie is set to hit cinemas on 5th October 2018. It will also star Riz Ahmed and Michelle Williams in unnamed roles, so far.

There was a small amount of confusion, to begin with when the title was announced. The confusion is whether Venom would be part of the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe or whether we would see Tom Holland’s Spider-Man would make an appearance.

These claims were denied by Kevin Feige, Marvel’s creative director, saying the two universes were totally separate.

More news will definitely come out throughout the year, so keep your ears to the ground.
