Halloween is closing in, so it’s only natural that we here at b**p try to further indulge your need for terror, and what better way to experience that than in your pyjamas in front of your favourite console and/or PC? Here’s the first part of our must-have horror games series. (And no, ‘Five Nights at Freddie’s’ will certainly NOT be making an appearance).

Let’s start light.

‘The Evil Within’ – PEGI 18

You play Sebastian Castellanos, a detective for the Krimson City Police Department, and are sent to a multiple homicide at a hospice…and it gets weirder from then on in. After completing the prologue, you are thrown, shot, stabbed, dragged, and bludgeoned through a ‘Resident Evil’-style campaign. The setting is constantly moving, with the main hub being a creepy asylum where you get your upgrades and unlock safes filled with stuff to help you: it really never lets up that you are never safe.

It’s perfect for playing with other people around you – just switch off every light in the house and get going. There’s enough content for a good lengthy playthrough. If you can look past a few flaws in the plot, it’s a very well put together game. The set pieces are very enjoyable and it often creeps up on you how scary it is, particularly Chapter 9. There is a decent amount of stuff to get through, and it is recommended you have the wiki up while doing some of the missions as a few of the bosses can be a nightmare (ha, nightmare) to get through without help.

If you’re squeamish, avoid this title, because from the offset you’re subjected to: a hospital massacre, the Sadist (a chainsaw wielding maniac who has an obsession with cutting you in half), and other grotesque creatures and bosses. Another suggestion: horde everything. And try to master the controls as fast as possible, because more often than not, you will have to use physical attacks instead of your gun, and if you are using a gun, upgrade your pistol as fast as possible; it’ll make a world of difference in fights.

So there’s our first game for you lot to play, and trust me…the worst is still to come!

MWAHAHAHAHA. *lightning crackle w/ haunted house background.
