Actor Jeffrey Tambor has dropped out of the Emmy-winning Amazon TV show Transparent after several sexual harassment allegations by members of the production team. Speaking with Deadline the actor said that playing the role of Maura Pfefferman has been ‘one of the greatest privileges and creative experiences of my life’.

He added that ‘this is no longer the job I signed up for four years ago’. Tambor went on to say that the allegations are ‘utterly untrue’ and that he would never ‘deliberately harass’ anyone.

Transparent revolves around a former science professor who comes out to his family as always identifying as a woman.

‘I’ve already made clear my deep regret if any action of mine was ever misinterpreted by anyone as being aggressive, but the idea that I would deliberately harass anyone is simply and utterly untrue.’

Following the accusations, the writing team for Transparent reportedly held discussions about writing his character out of the show in the new season. According to sources cited by Deadline, however, the show still hasn’t been renewed, even before the allegations surfaced.

His performances, no matter where they were, always seemed to be pretty decent. Even in The Grinch and that movie was awful. Whether there is any truth to these accusations is still unknown.

In his first public statement, he said that he hasn’t always been the ‘easiest person to work with’, but ‘I have never been a predator – ever’.

The Emmy winning actor starred in Arrested Development and both Hellboy movies. He was also King Neptune in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie.
