After the critical nightmare that was Suicide Squad and the review crucifixion that was Batman V Superman, it’s understandable that we’re all a bit doubtful as to the quality of the next few DC films.

However, actor Joe Manganiello, who will play Deathstroke in the coming film, has a few choice words for those who are still unsure about DC’s future.

He seems to fit the bill looks wise. Please be good.

In a recent interview with the Super Genius podcast, he said the movie’s direction will make a lot of people “very happy”.

“When I met Ben, we sat down and we talked about the role. We talked about the movie,” Manganiello said. “His take is a fresh take, but I think the audience is going to be surprised. Because it’s a road that no one’s really gone down that’s completely integral to who Batman is.

“And I think it’s gonna be refreshing but at the same time completely familiar. [It]’s going to take this franchise in a direction that I think A LOT of people are going to be really happy about. It’s going to be gritty and action-packed and cerebral and all of those elements that people love about Batman.”

Joe praised Ben Affleck’s previous works also, stating he is a “great director”, and that “everything is lined up for a really really great movie”.

Jeremy Irons, who plays Alfred, said that the movie would be in full production next year, during summer, and the film itself won’t be out until 2018.

DC has a lot to prove with its next few films. Wonder Woman’s first full length trailer was released the other day, and looks to have a more positive tone, as well as a more vibrant colour palette. Justice League, which will be released in 2017, will see Gal Gadot, Ben Affleck, and Jason Momoa come together for the first time as DC’s most iconic heroes.

There’s only so much optimism one can give a dead horse.

But we will see.
