Following the death of young Sunderland fan Bradley Lowery on Friday, his family announced in a Facebook post that all are welcome at his funeral on Friday 14th July.

Little Bradley, who was from Blackhall Colliery, passed away following a long fight with a rare form of cancer, neuroblastoma, which saw him form a close bond with former Sunderland player Jermain Defoe. In the months before his death, Bradley was Sunderland’s mascot at many games, and England’s too, captivating the hearts of everyone around the world.

In a tweet posted on Saturday morning, Defoe said: “God has you in his arms and I will always carry you in my heart. Sleep tight little one. My best friend.”

For those wishing to attend Bradley’s funeral, his family have said everyone is welcome to go along to St Joseph’s R.C. Church for an 11:15am start. Acknowledging that there will not be enough room inside of the church, there will be speakers outside so people can still listen to the service.

A private ceremony will happen following the service at a crematorium and mourners are urged to follow the colour theme of “cancer has no colours”.
