What Annoyed the Internet This Week?
Share:
The story of schoolboy Keaton Jones was probably the wildest of 2017. In the matter of hours, he went from a bullied little boy who had been invited to movie premiers and sports events out of sympathy to a racist conman from a white supremacist family. Anyone that watched the original video couldn’t help but feel sorry for Jones.
After dozens of celebrities including Rihanna, Justin Bieber and Katy Perry showed their support and a Gofundme raised $58,000, images of his family with the Confederate flag emerged and it was revealed that Jones’ father, currently in prison, is a member of a gang called Aryan Circle.
Very quickly, celebrities began to delete their posts and the Internet began to absolutely rip the family to shreds. Here’s just how annoyed the Internet was about the whole situation:
Keaton & his Mama almost scammed the whole world and they would've gotten away with it too if it wasn't for that meddling Black Twitter.

It’s not entirely a laughing matter though. Some Twitter users highlighted some of the hypocrisy that this whole situation brought out.
So, I want to know how Ashawnty Davis and Rosalie Avila, two innocent people of color, took their own lives because of bullying and got a little bit of attention, but Keaton Jones, a white supremacist, has lots of money on his GoFundMe page and has celebrities supporting him. pic.twitter.com/BDgTSVJq21

While I don’t agree with labelling Keaton Jones a ‘white supremacist’ (although I don’t dispute his parents are), it’s clear that the media and the public decided that one life mattered more than others.
