Another Uber Loss

Uber has lost its license in Sheffield after it failed to answer questions about its management, the city council reports. It’s not looking good for the private car hire company.

The firm, still in a battle for the ban in London, can operate until 18th December in Sheffield and can appeal the decision, just as they did in the capital. If it does not appeal, then the suspension will come into force. Uber has defended their side by saying it was an ‘administrative error’ made by the council. They hope to resolve the issue soon.

This is the second city in the UK to appeal against Uber. Could this spell doom for the firm?

Transport for London criticised the firm for its lack of background checks and record of reporting criminal offences. They deemed the company ‘unfit’ to run a taxi service.

A Sheffield City Spokesperson said:

‘Uber’s licence was suspended last Friday (29 November) after the current licence holder failed to respond to requests, made by our licensing team, about the management of Uber. We received a new application, for a licence to operate taxis in Sheffield, from Uber Britannia Limited, on 18 October 2017 which we are currently processing.’

The council claimed that their licence could not be transferred and that the newest application would be dealt with by the licensing department.

The private car hire service said that if the newest forms were not passed by the 18th of the month, they would appeal the decision.

It’s not looking good for Uber, is it?
