Avicii’s ex-girlfriend has posted a tribute on social media, after his untimely death at the age of 28-years-old. Otherwise known as Tim Bergling, he died in Oman on Friday and the cause of death is not known as of yet.

Emily Goldberg wrote that during the two years they spent together, she thought of him as her ‘closest confidante’. She uploaded photos of them on Instagram, as well as a screenshot from a WhatsApp conversation. They dated between 2011 and 2013 it is believed.

Two years ago, Avicii announced his retirement, after suffering from health problems like pancreatitis, from excessive drinking. He once said in an interview:

‘Drinking became routine for me, but it’s impossible to keep up touring and drinking at the same time because you are going to crash.’

Musicians have also been posting their tributes to the dance music maker, saying his ‘music will live forever’.  Rita Ora, Skrillex, Calvin Harris and even Madonna all shared their thoughts on social media.

Radio 1 host Annie Mac began her Friday show by saying ‘it’s a massive loss for dance music’ and that it was ‘absolutely devastating news’.
