So the twelve albums in the 2014 Barclaycard Mercury Prize ‘Albums of the Year’ Award have been announced .

The Mercury Award celebrates a year in UK music, and entries of over 220 albums were whittled down to just twelve – and what a mighty twelve they are:

Anna Calvi – One Breath
Bombay Bicycle Club – So Long, See You Tomorrow
Damon Albarn – Everyday Robots
East India Youth – Total Strife Forever
FKA twigs – LP1
GoGo Penguin – v2.0
Jungle – Jungle
Kate Tempest – Everybody Down
Nick Mulvey – First Mind
Polar Bear – In Each and Every One
Royal Blood – Royal Blood
Young Fathers – Dead

Simon Frith, Chair of the Judges, claimed that the Prize’s shortlist ‘confirms that these are fascinating times for UK music’ and truly impressed the judges with their ‘inventive passion’ and ‘emotional possibilities’, hinting that it could be a very close call when the winner is announced.

The overall winner of the 2014 Barclaycard Mercury Prize will be announced at the Barclaycard Mercury Prize Awards Show at the Roundhouse on Wednesday 29th October 2014.

To celebrate the nominees and their contribution to the UK music landscape over the past year we will be featuring each album on the site as we build up to the award ceremony on the 29th October.
