BBC Radio 1 announced yesterday that Radio 1’s Big Weekend will take place in Glasgow, for its 11th year, to celebrate the city’s hosting of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Rita Ora and Paolo Nutini are the first confirmed artist to play at the biggest free ticket music event in Europe on 24th and the 25th May. Over 60,000 tickets will be available for the two events.

Nick Grimshaw made the announcement live from BBC Scotland on his Radio 1 breakfast show. Headline artists and the full line up are yet to be revealed, but they are due to be announced on radio 1 in the next couple of months.

Last year’s event was held in Londonderry which was headlined by Bruno Mars, Calvin Harris and Biffy Clyro.

We think this year is going to be a big one.
