Bitterly Unsurprising

Okay, this is a mood though.
NASCAR owners have said that anyone caught kneeling during the national anthem will be fired. Surprising literally no one. This is basically an open and shut story, but considering most NASCAR fans only recently just stopped bringing Confederate flags to rallies, we really aren’t surprised.
Twitter users were obviously up in arms about it, claiming that the whole point of kneeling throughout the USA’s national anthem isn’t about respect for the flag or the country, but about racial injustice and the fact it’s still a problem.
Serious Q: How many black drivers/crew members are in NASCAR? These protests are about racial injustice, not the flag or anthem. https://t.co/3KYusj7kX5

NASCAR–a sport that grew out of evading the police–is going to come down on racers who protest the police? Got it.

Aren't NASCAR drivers supposed to be badass outlaws who would never let a corporation tell them what to do? https://t.co/e7DJxEC4Cj

Possibly the funniest response:

This all started when NFL coaches, players and owners started to kneel during the national anthem during football games. The POTUS himself criticised LeSean McCoy who knelt and stretched during the anthem, leading to most of its participants following suit and kneeling too.

This isn’t about respect for a flag. Nor is it even close to respect for a man who called the original kneeler a ‘son of a b**p’.
This is about the continuing, seemingly unrelenting racism that is still so heavily entrenched in the US government in 2017.
