Bizarre Would be an Understatement

News surrounds us. Some of it good; some of it bad; some of it sombre; and some of it sad. But as far as wacky news goes, this story definitely takes the biscuit.

A reptile-wielding maniac has been banned from a Newcastle branch of Dixy Chicken after threatening to throw a python at staff.

Need I continue?

Anthony Dando of Pease (pudding) Avenue, Newcastle, has pleaded guilty to harassing a member of staff at the branch of Dixy Chicken on Newcastle’s West Road. The reptile enthusiast in question had entered the takeaway on the afternoon of November 9th 2016 and – although the manager had expected him to order food – asked for a warm blanket for his snake. A perfectly reasonable request in a chicken shop, I’m sure you’ll agree. As the manager noticed customers looking intimidated by the python, he asked Mr Dando to leave the store. At which point, Dando flew into a fit of rage, screaming, “don’t talk to me like that, I will smash your head in and throw this snake at you”. In a vain attempt to calm the disturbed herpetologist, the shop manager offered two free pieces of chicken to Mr Dando so he could feed the snake and leave the premises.

However, at this point Mr Dando ate both chicken pieces himself, asked for a drink to go with it and left the store – prompting the manager to seek advice from the police.

And yes, this is a real story.
