Black Mirror is Back

The award-winning dystopian drama by Charlie Brooker is returning for a third season on the 21st of October. The show has moved away from its previous home of Channel Four with the new season being made by Netflix, and lovers of the show have high hopes. Brooker has been quiet the past few months (we had no Weekly Wipe this year), amid reports a new season was up and coming, and we will not be disappointed. The trailer promises ‘six new stories’, and from the looks of it they will all have the same characteristic technological spin that the first two series had, with a few famous faces and a more American tone interspersed.

Black Mirror has always been creepy; it reflects with accuracy the fears we have over where technology is headed and what it has done to us. The surface black comedy and satire that comes with everything Brooker creates is interwoven with scary dystopian worlds ‘minutes from our own’. The Christmas special featuring John Hamm may be a clue to the tone of the new series. Netflix has, in the past, created some amazing series and films, as we are all well aware, so there is good reason to believe this will follow the same pattern. Personally, I can’t wait to see where the show will go next, and I wait with bated breath for what will hopefully be an astounding fresh dose of what Brooker does so well.
