With the Brit Awards ceremony being nothing short of weird and wonderful, we review the winners of the awards mixed in with the star-studded performances from Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Paloma Faith, George Ezra and Madonna, who in true ‘material girl’ style bounced right back up after falling during her performance. You can’t help but wonder if the dancer involved in that situation is down the job centre this morning.

British Male Solo Artist:

Ed Sheeran scooped the first award of the night and it was his first ever Brit Award.

International Male Solo Artist:

Pharrell Williams won the award after his smash-hit single ‘Happy’ dominated the charts last summer.

British Group:

Surprising winners of the award were Royal Blood who have only been together for two years and have now won a Brit.

International Group:

The competition in this category was not as high as the others, but rock band Foo Fighters grabbed the gong.

British Female Solo Artist:

Another surprising winner was Paloma Faith who delivered a very passionate and moving speech to the audience. Faith beat the fierce competition of rising star Ella Henderson.

International Female Solo Artist:

No surprise that this award went to America’s sweetheart Taylor Swift despite many viewers of the Brits thinking that it should have been Sia who won the award, Swift’s success last year was unbelievable.

British Breakthrough:

This award went to Sam Smith due to his unprecedented success with his album In The Lonely Hour.

British Video:

The award went to no other than One Direction for the video of their single ‘You & I’ knocking out Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson’s ‘Uptown Funk’ video.

British Single:

Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson’s ‘Uptown Funk’ stole the show and scooped the British Single Award, blowing out the favourites to win the award like Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith.

MasterCard British Album:

It was no surprise that Ed Sheeran took home the most prestigious award of the night for his second album X. Sheeran has had a very successful night and it looks like his success will continue for many years to come.
