A gunman killed four people on Tuesday in rural California, after he fired into an elementary school, but was stopped from entering by one of the teachers, police say.

Staff at the Rancho Tehama Reserve School went into lockdown, securing the school doors after hearing gunshots nearby. Authorities have praised the teacher for their ‘monumental’ actions that saved ‘countless’ lives. Police confirmed that one child was shot, and others were hurt by broken glass.

Police eliminated the gunman after he tried to escape in a stolen car. He was named as 43-year-old local Kevin Neal.

It is believed that the spree began after a domestic dispute with a neighbour, which turned violent after the 43-year-old shot them. He had been in prior contact with law enforcement.

Yet another shooting. Another day in America.

But no, now is not the time to discuss gun laws.
