Call for Ban on Micro-Beads

You know those tiny little plastic balls in face washes and body scrubs? Well, it looks like they won’t be around for much longer, as it’s been discovered that the micro-beads are clogging up our drainage system. In fact, 99% of the beads are contributing to the drains being blocked. That’s 800 trillion micro-beads. Who’d have thought that such miniature beads would have such an impact?

What makes it worse is that since they are made of plastic, they won’t dissolve and there seems to be no getting rid of them.

They’re not just bad for the environment, but for your skin as well. Dermatologists advise people to avoid face washes with micro-beads in, as they actually rub oil and dirt into your pores, as opposed to getting it out.

Marine creatures, too, are affected. Fish can’t really tell the difference between the little beads and food and so are consuming hundreds of them.

There’s no reason why the beads can’t be replaced with non-plastic alternatives that will dissolve in water. For now, the only thing we can really do is boycott products with micro-beads in them.
