After a fire ripped through Loch Lomond’s Cameron House, taking the lives of 32-year-old Simon Midgley and 38-year-old Richard Dyson, the hotel is to be closed ‘until further notice’.

The blaze gripped the luxury hotel on Monday morning. The hotel announced it will remain closed while investigations are conducted. The cause of the fire is still unknown. The five-star resort was open for weddings, parties and holidays. This included facilities like a gym, a pool and saunas and steam rooms.

Lodges are also available on the hills surrounding the hotel too.

Cameron House was situated next to Loch Lomond, a beautiful stretch of water, now scarred by a burned-out building.

More than 200 guests were rushed from the building, including a family with two adults and a child rescued by ladder. Mr Midgley and Mr Dyson had been staying at the resort for a winter break, away from Somerfield Road in north London.

The MSP Jackie Baillie, who had met the hotel’s manager on Wednesday, was brought to tears as she was asked by Nicola Sturgeon about the fire in the Holyrood Chamber.

She said:

‘I’m sure she’ll join with me in sending condolences to the families who lost loved ones and to praise our emergency services – the firefighters, police officers and paramedics who attended, as well as the staff who played a critical role in evacuating the building.
‘The investigation is yet to start because the building needs to be made safe, but can I ask the first minister when the investigation is complete, will she ensure that lessons are learned, whether in practice or if there is a need to enhance building standards regulations.’
Cameron House
Such a loss.

Mrs Sturgeon replied that the fire was ‘in all our minds this week.’

‘The tragic fire at Cameron House Hotel on the morning of 18 December sadly claimed the lives of two young men, and I want to convey my deepest condolences to the families of the two young men who died and send my thoughts to all of those who were affected by this tragedy.’

It sucks.

What is even more annoying is the fact that we still have no explanation for why the fire started. The investigation should reveal something soon, we hope.
