After weeks at the top of the Championship League Table, Newcastle United has finally been pushed down to the number two spot and is two points behind Brighton. This came as Newcastle drew with Norwich City on the 14th 2-2 and Brighton drew 1-1 against Ipswich Town on the same day, but then won their match on the 18th against Barnsley 0-2. However, it’s not all bad news as Brighton did play two games last week and Newcastle could very easily overtake them again next week.

In their own game against Norwich, Newcastle scored a goal within the first minute. Ayoze Perez scored at the 23rd second which set the tone for the rest of the first half. Norwich’s two goals were both in the first half giving them a 2-1 lead by half-time. They retained this lead for most of the second half until the 81st minute when Jamaal Lascelles scored.

Even though they didn’t win the match, NUFC manager Rafa Benitez wasn’t too disheartened. In his post-match interview, he had this to say:

“It was a very open game – good for the fans but perhaps not for the managers. Norwich might think differently but I think we had enough chances to have won it – but you can’t always take three points and if we can take four points every two games we will go up.”
