Saturday the 10th was a good day for Newcastle United, as they won against Birmingham City 4-0. This now leaves Newcastle with a total of 43 points while Birmingham, ranked eighth on the table, only have 31. The win comes after two consecutive losses for Newcastle, who only three weeks ago were on the verge of breaking their own record for the most matches won in a row in the Championship League.

The match, played in Newcastle’s home stadium, brought star player Dwight Gayle his second hat trick of the season, as he scored at minutes 18, 24 and 77. As it stands, Gayle has scored 16 goals for Newcastle this season.

Newcastle finished the match with a 62% ball possession and took advantage of every chance they were given.

Rafa Benitez, the Newcastle manager, had this to say after the match:

“We played attacking football with some pace and good situations that we practised; the players were enjoying it. We talked about the Blackburn game and not making the same mistakes in waiting 45 minutes to create some chances. We concentrated and did what we had to do.”

You may remember Newcastle losing 1-0 to Blackburn a few weeks ago. Benitez had put this loss down to Newcastle not creating enough chances for themselves, but it looks like they’ve managed to learn from this.
