Dec to Host BGT Alone

After being convicted of drink driving, Ant McPartlin will not be co-hosting Britain’s Got Talent live shows with Declan Donnelly, Ant’s long-time partner in presenting the show. Dec also took on the last few live shows of Saturday Night Takeaway, alone.

The broadcaster said that Dec would be taking over ‘while Ant steps down from his TV commitments for now’. He will feature in the audition episodes, but these were filmed in January. Ant was charged with drink driving last month, following a collision featuring three cars in London.

The show will enter its 12th season on Saturday.

In recent years, the show’s semi-finals have been aired nightly across one week, usually in May. With the auditions being broadcast in the weeks leading up to it. ITV said in a statement:

‘We send Ant all our love. And we know that Dec will do a brilliant job.’

Ant was admitted into rehab last year, due to a painkiller addiction, which stemmed from a difficult surgery on his leg. His arrest was announced on 18th March that he was stepping down to seek further treatment.

He is due to appear in court on 16th April.

Last year, Britain’s Got Talent’s final was watched by an average of 8.2 million people, with 10 million tuning in just as the winner was announced.

Hopefully, Dec can bear the weight of the show on his own and we wish a speedy recovery for Ant.
