Arkane Studios, the team behind this year’s Dishonored 2, has claimed it wants to challenge the Meta, much like From Soft did with Demon Souls. Creative director Harvey Smith said that he sees Arkane Studios as being similar to the Dark Souls developers when it comes to bucking industry standards, and enjoying success through their games.

Unlike the first game, the sequel lets you play as either Corvo or Emily Kaldwin. Each character has a unique skill set, and they react differently to each part of the story. Corvo will have a familiar move set to the first game, and Emily will be more stealth based, being able to harness her powers to form grapples and tendrils as shown in the trailer.

But, while the CG trailers and images look gorgeous, we have yet to see any actual gameplay, so it’s good to keep a level head.

That being said, if the gameplay is as smooth and as sharp as the last game, it’ll be a joy to play.

There have been a number of rumours that there might be co-op, but Smith has denied those by saying:

“Our game is about observation, stealth, taking your time, and playing at your own pace. Co-op would destroy it. Maybe there is a way somebody could do it, but this is not that experience.”

The first game centered around Corvo. A Royal guard turned assassin after being betrayed by those he protected.

The first game hinged on the fact that your actions were specific to you. Adding co-op to the experience would lessen the impact of certain points in the game. It could simply come down to while one player wants to go non-lethal, the other wants to go lethal, and there could be conflict there.

The game is said to introduce quick saves and quick loads, as well as a checkpoint system, as confirmed by Game Informer.

Many of the games story elements remain a mystery. Rumours have circulated that choosing on character means sacrificing the other when choosing who you play as – but these have yet to be confirmed.

Dishonored 2 is set away from Dunwall, where the last game took place, but seems to have the same problem with plague and corruption as the first game did.

Release date is November the 11th.

Right before a certain writer’s birthday.
