Disney’s Old and New

20 March 2014

The American TV channel Disney is set to launch a brand new film, shot in Britain!

Evermoor will begin filming in Arley Hall, near Warrington, at the end of April, but the casting has not yet been finalised. Rebecca Hodgson, head of Liverpool-based Lime Pictures, said that the film would have a ‘British and American sensibility’ and a ‘dialogue polish’ to make sure certain words are ‘right’. Lime Pictures is behind shows like The Only Way is Essex, Hollyoaks and now TV film Evermoor.

The brand new film highly anticipates budding stars, male or female, just like ones Disney has spawned in the past decade. Hopefully the new advocate to the long line of children’s idols will make it just as big as the others in years to come.

Here’s a list of five Disney stars whose careers have encouraged super-stardom:

Miley Cyrus

The baby-faced teenager who took over our generation’s TV first made her name big time as Hannah Montana, the girl with the ‘best of both worlds’. Doubling as a superstar as well as a normal girl, Hannah Montana was the stage name of ‘Miley Stewart’. Cyrus released a string of albums during her younger days, but now as a real superstar (without the blonde wig), the twerking, working Miley is currently on her sold-out ‘BANGERZ’ tour spanning worldwide.

Demi Lovato

Making her TV debut on children’s show Barney and Friends at the age of nine, Demi landed a role later on starring in the Disney Channel original movie Camp Rock, then she was made the star of her own TV show Sonny With a Chance. Lovato took a break from acting, toured with her album Don’t Forget, but took a real break when she entered rehab in 2010. Now, stronger than ever, Demi is touring the USA on the ‘Neon Lights Tour’, following the release of her self-titled album ‘DEMI’.

Jonas Brothers

The JoBros were many little girls’ ‘first boy band’ after they made their debut acting role in Hannah Montana and sung with Miley Cyrus for the show. Then, in 2008, they debuted in film alongside close friend Demi Lovato in Camp Rock, soon beginning filming for their own TV show JONAS, which spiralled into a spin-off series JONAS L.A. The three brothers split up last year, but have nevertheless had a brilliant career thanks to Disney.

Zac Efron

High School Musical, the Disney original movie, launched teen idol Zac Efron to superstardom after he landed the male lead as Troy Bolton, playing him again in HSM 2 and three. Efron has since starred in films such as 17 Again, St. Cloud, New Year’s Eve, The Lucky One and even voiced a character in children’s hit film The Lorax.

Selena Gomez

The 21 year-old performing arts enthusiast Selena Gomez made her rise to fame first appearing in Barney and Friends with her best friend Demi Lovato. The budding actress landed it big when she played the main role of Alex Russo in Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place. The show came to an end in 2012 and Gomez has since released albums such as Kiss & Tell, her debut solo album being Stars Dance with which she is touring with currently. Back in 2013, she featured in the hit film Spring Breakers which proved Gomez as a respected name in the film industry.

Hopefully the next star from Disney can live up to the previous standards set by the stars in our list.
