Oh no. Please no. Not another one, please. I still haven’t gotten over the terrible effects and acting of the 2000 attempt.

That was a niche joke, but someone will have got it. You heard that right, folks, Paramount Pictures is looking to get a shoe in the door with Dungeons and Dragons. The pen and paper role-playing game is rising in popularity among the nerd space. It’s almost a mainstream pastime given how engrained nerd culture has become in our society.

Plus, it’s really cooling to pretend you’re a tipsy half elf all the time.

The artwork alone is worth owning the books for. Look me in the face and tell me that isn’t cool.

Talk is all there seeming to be, however, with only a release date from The Hollywood Reporter. It’s worth noting that Paramount doesn’t have any other big releases for the next few years. So, who knows? Maybe this could be something to look out for if you’re a fan.

The release date is set for 23rd July 2021, which is a way out yet. Other releases include a new GI Joe film in 2020 and an unnamed Hasbro event for 2021.

Dungeons and Dragons made its debut initially in the 80s, with some guidebooks and some paper you could create your own adventures that could last for hundreds of hours. Partly because of the story, partly because of your players spending three hours talking to a tree.

The table-top game revolves around rolling dice to determine the outcome of an action. Safe to say my average number is a 2.

A typical game consists of a ‘dungeon master’ and the party of players. The DM then guides the players through whatever world they are playing through.

It isn’t just fantasy oriented either anymore. Plenty of companies wanted to capitalize on the D&D market, so now we have a Star Wars version, a Wild West version and even a Fallout 4 version coming very soon. But if that’s not enough, we’d recommend The Adventure Zone by Polygon’s Griffin McElroy. It’s a podcast that sees three noobs of D&D go on possibly one of the coolest journeys ever.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some kobolds to set on fire.
