Durham’s Lumiere Festival, the UK’s largest light festival, is soon to return. And, to make things even more exciting, the full programme of artworks, illustrations and events have now been revealed.

This year’s programme has a strong international influence, with artists from around the world, including Spain, Canada, Sweden and Finland.

There is so much to see this year, and something for everyone. Here are some we’re most excited for.

The Common Good

With cameos from firefighters and refuse collectors, teachers, health workers and police officers. The Common Good seeks to recognise and celebrate the extraordinary work and impact public sector workers have on communities at large.

Celebrating the role of Durham’s public service sector workers within the life of a city, Shared Space & Light uncover the stories, anecdotes and the lives of these hidden heroes who interact with us, the public, on a daily basis.

Drawn in Light

This installation is made of steel, hand-formed into a typical Amsterdam-style canal building, surrounded by tranquil elements of daily life.

The piece rotates elegantly above the river, twirling and twisting to create a new city location, illuminated against the dark sky.

Entre les rangs

Filling the Cathedral Cloister with thousands of illuminated flowers, Entre les rangs a creation of Kanva, is a tribute to fields of wheat that shimmer in the wind as the seasons pass.

Experience a sensory stroll around the edge of this unusual field, enjoying the light that follows and highlights your walk. Created and produced with the support of Quartier des Spectacles Partnership, Montreal.

Durham’s Lumiere runs from Thursday 16 – Sunday 19 November. So, make sure you check it out!
