Emma Watson has donated a massive £1 million to a new campaign aimed at helping those affected by harassment in the workplace.

The donation comes as more than 200 British and Irish female stars have signed an open letter calling for an end to harassment in the workplace. Emma Thompson and Keira Knightly are among the names who have signed the letter.

Keira Knightly, along with hundreds of other women signed this letter, as a sign of solidarity for the women who have been harassed in the industry.

The move comes after dozens of celebrities have spoken out about their own experiences with harassment in the industry. This all snowballed, of course, form the outing of Harvey Weinstein as a sexually menacing and downright gross human being.

Actors like Knightly and Avengers star Tom Hiddleston have both donated £10,000 to the cause already. Doctor Who cast members Jodie Whittaker and Noomi Rapace also donated £1,000.

The letter stated that this was a time to:

‘Celebrate this tremendous moment of solidarity and unity across borders by coming together and making this movement international.’

In the very near past, we lived in a world where sexual harassment was an uncomfortable joke; an unavoidable awkward part of being a girl or a woman. If we truly embrace this moment, a line in the sand will turn to stone.’

Watson’s most recent movie was last year’s Beauty and the Beast. Which wasn’t without its own share of controversy.

Hopefully, this should give women the support they need. Because if one thing was apparent from 2017, it was that the women of Hollywood are in dire need of recognition for the hardships they have been through.

Emma Watson has always been a voice for those in need. It’s nice to know other celebrities are willing to say that enough is enough.
