After nearly 5 years of rumours and talks and upcoming release dates, Gambit, the X-Men spin off character, has been delayed yet again.

It was set to be directed by Rise of the Planet of the Apes (good lord – that’s a mouthful) director Rupert Wyatt, but he left in September last year due to scheduling conflicts. Rumours and a story from Deadline claimed it was due to budgeting problems and scripts rewrites.

Gambit is not set to start production until the “end of 2016”, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Current director Doug Liman said he may tackle another movie, a thriller entitled The Wall, in the meantime. This would mean the film probably won’t be finished until late 2017 to early 2018.

The card-throwing staff wielder is said to be played by Channing Tatum, alongside Spectre’s Lea Seydoux.

Gambit has been seen on screen before, played by Taylor Kitsch in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which was meant to be a series of films, but after an uproar of negativity from critics and fans, the project was put on hold permanently.

The character of Gambit often crosses paths with Deadpool, and if the film is done as well as that was, we’re in for a show.

Did I mention how good Deadpool was?
