After years of development, God of War has finally been released. Given the strong reception from reviewers last time we talked about it, it should be no surprise it will be a fan favourite. Well, in a rather emotional video, game director Cory Barlog reacted to the scores for the first time.

Barlog and his team pushed hard on the game to get it out this year and the work definitely shows. Polygon recently released the first two hours, unedited and in all its savagery and it looks insane.

The game director went to Metacritic, where he saw the game’s score at a lofty 94 (now 95). Seeing the praise for the game drove him to tears. The genuine emotion he shows is a really nice thing to see. A lot of the time when we cover games it’s something gone wrong. EA screwing players over, or awful DLCs.

It’s lovely to see genuine passion thrown into something like this. God of War has been around since the PS1 era and has enamoured thousands, if not millions of people over the world. It’s good to see the game, and its makers, reach the heights it deserves to.

He states that he wasn’t even sure whether or not to make the video. In the end he wanted to show his son that it’s okay to be sad and okay to show emotion.

Well done to the folks at Santa Monica Studios.
