Godzilla: King of Monsters is happening very soon, and finally has a director.

It’s Michael Dougherty, who directed Krampus… and Superman Returns.

But let’s not jump overboard just yet.

With Kong: Skull Island continuing the trend of modern monster movies after Godzilla in 2014, and Godzilla vs. Kong coming in 2020, there’s a revival going on that few people have noticed. The new Kong film looks to be more akin to the 60-70s movies, with more emphasis on the monsters and less on the weird gorilla/human relationship. Admit it, it was weird.

Variety has confirmed Dougherty was actually a co-writer, and there was talk of him being the director back in October 2016. King of Monsters is said to be a direct sequel to the 2014 film, which could have done with about 50 minutes more of Godzilla actually punching monsters in the face. But, hopefully we’ll see some justice done to the big scaly lizard, as the name implies he’ll be asserting himself… as the king of monsters.

We have no idea how it will tie in to Kong, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited for it.

Just as long as it’s not three hours of this again:
