The famous rock band Green Day have announced they are to headline the British Summer Time festival in 2017.

Billie Joe Armstrong said: “London in the summer; us and tens of thousands of fans having the biggest party in one of the world’s most legendary venues. We have the best year to look forward to and this has just made it extra special.”

The performance will be part of their Revolution World tour.

This will follow their 12th studio album on the Friday, and they will headline on Saturday 1st of July.

James King, of AVG Live, said, “We are super excited to be announcing Green Day as our first headliner for 2017.

“So many hits and also some amazing new music as well. London is going to be treated to one of the best stadium bands of our generation on the Great Oak Stage in Hyde Park.”

The 2017 BST will be the fifth anniversary of the show, and it has already seen some big hits perform there, like Taylor Swift, The Rolling Stones and Stevie Wonder.

Green Day have a number of awards under their belts, including five Grammy Awards, one for best alternative album for Dookie, best rock album for American Idiot, record of the year for ‘Boulevard of Broken Dreams’, best rock album for a second time for 21st Century Breakdown and best musical show album for American Idiot: The Original Broadway Cast Recording.

In 2015, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in their first year of eligibility, too.
