Japanese-American actor Daniel Dae Kim has been confirmed to play the character Major Ben Daimino in the upcoming Hellboy reboot. Last month, Ed Skrein dropped out of the role, after accusations of whitewashing. He stepped down from the role so that it could be filled with the appropriate actor.

The film studio Lionsgate released a statement on the matter, saying:

“It was not our intent to be insensitive to issues of authenticity and ethnicity, and we will look to recast the part with an actor more consistent with the character in the source material.”

Kim recently left the American crime drama Hawaii Five-O after a dispute with CBS. On Twitter, he pinned this on unequal pay and being unable to come to an agreement. All Kim wanted was to be paid as much as his white co-stars, but CBS wouldn’t agree. Grace Park, walked out also after similar disputes with pay around the same time as Kim.

It’s great that Lionsgate bucked their ideas up and found an appropriate actor.

The first image of David Harbour as the big red demon was released a few days ago. Have a look:

Hellboy is expected in 2018.
