Holocaust: 70 Years On

Over 1.3 million people were killed in Auschwitz in Poland during World War Two between 1940 and 1945. Over 1.1 million of those people murdered were Jewish with a quarter of them being children. Polish people, lesbians, homosexuals and disabled people were among those who perished at the notorious concentration camp at the hands of the nazis. Thousands of prisoners arrived daily by train to work as slaves or be gassed in the chambers. Only 7,000 prisoners walked free when the second world war finally ended on September 2nd 1945.

Survivors of the Holocaust will lay wreaths and light candles at the famous Death Wall today to remember those tragic people who had a one way ticket to their death.
