With the clocks set to change in a few weeks, it can be easy to feel sad about the summer nearly being completely over. To avoid those ‘winter blues’, you can try lots of things to prepare yourself for cold icy mornings and dark evenings. Here’s our advice:

- Stock up on hot beverages. Buy a large box of hot chocolate mix or cappuccinos to warm you up on a morning or evening. It’s amazing the difference a hot drink can make to your mood on a chilly morning.

- Fit snow tyres on your car. This means you don’t have to dread every time you look out of the window, in case the roads are frozen with ice. This eliminates the worry of being stuck in your house when it starts to snow.

- Buy some cosy winter pyjamas. Temperatures in your house can drop to possibly dangerous levels in the winter. It’s important to remember to wear lots of layers.

- Get some scented candles. It’s much easier to bear the Arctic conditions when you are surrounded by the smell of tangerines or cinnamon. This gives a positive winter-y feel instead of a negative one.

- Make yourself really excited for the holidays. Having something to look forward to can help you forget that it’s -10 degrees outside. The fun of buying gifts for other people and stocking up on tins of Quality Street should help make winter seem less of a chore.
