How To Revise Over Christmas

Now that all the lights have been switched on in every town centre, the Christmas music is on loop in the shops and nearly the whole country has seen some snow, the last thing anybody wants to be doing over Christmas is revising. However, January mocks and exams don’t care that you’d rather be watching Christmas movies or ice skating. Many students probably won’t even take their books out of their bags until it’s time to go back to school or university. Luckily there are many ways to have a relaxing and happy holiday without jeopardising your grades.

1) The most useful advice is to work little and often:

Don’t spend entire days studying because you’ll just sicken yourself and be less likely to want to study again. Spend up to 30 minutes once or twice a day studying rather than doing it all in one go.

2) Do some reading:

Students who read are more likely to achieve a better final grade and reading by the fire on a winter’s night makes you feel really ready for Christmas- even if you are just reading a boring textbook.

3) Try to finish essays and assignments before the holidays:

You want to free up as much time as possible to spend with friends and family. Try and power through all of your tasks on the last week of school or uni so that the only thing left to do is revise.

4) Get out of the house:

This is especially helpful for somebody with a big family or lots of siblings. Christmas is a really distracting time and it helps to designate yourself some time at a coffee shop or library so that you can work effectively.

5) Schedule study sessions so that you don’t leave everything till the last minute.

If you have an essay due, you don’t want to be writing the entire thing the day before you go home after stressing about it for weeks. Similarly, you don’t want to have to cram a semester’s worth of information into your head a few days before the exam. Set aside a few days when you know you have no plans and work then.
