Going on holiday is supposed to be a fun and exciting experience, but sometimes going to the airport can be more stressful than anything. Security can take a long time, flights can be delayed, and sometimes you even have to stand in a long queue before getting your pre-flight drink (how shocking!). Jokes aside, it truly can ruin the start of your holiday for you if anything goes wrong, so it’s important to be prepared and you’ll soon be on your way to surviving the airport this summer!

  • Don’t forget your passport or travel documents – this is probably the most important thing to avoid forgetting. If you arrive to the airport without the correct documents then there’s no chance of you even getting past security, never mind on the plane. Check, double check, and triple check that you have everything you need before you leave the house
  • Arrive at the airport early – don’t leave it until the last minute! While it can be boring hanging about the airport for a long time, it’s better to be safe than sorry. The last thing you want to do is miss your flight. So, most airports give this advice; arrive three hours early if you’re going on a long haul flight, two hours early if you’re travelling to Europe, and one hour early if you’re travelling to somewhere in the UK or Ireland.
  • Make sure you’ve packed everything correctly, and you’ve followed the rules for security – You don’t want to get stopped at security because you’ve accidentally taken too much liquid in your hand luggage, or because there’s something sharp hiding in there, so check before you leave. If you’re unsure, here’s the list of restrictions.
  • Take British Sterling with you, not just your foreign currency – If your flight is delayed, or for some reason you’re left waiting in the airport for hours, you’ll most probably get bored very soon. However, there are a ton of shops that you can have a look around, as well as restaurants and bars. Remember to take some British Sterling with you so that you can pay for everything you need before you go abroad.

So, there’s our advice to you. There are a number of other things you may want to do in order to make your journey more enjoyable, such as wearing comfortable clothes, and checking in online in advance, but our tips are the most important ones to ensure that everything goes smoothly. Oh, and don’t forget to connect to the WiFi!

Enjoy your flight!
