So, what are people saying about Marvel’s next biggest film? Avengers: Infinity War releases on Friday and while many are applauding its ambition, not every critic is a fan.

The movie features pretty much every single character to ever feature in the franchise, with the likes of Captain America hashing it out alongside Starlord from Guardians of the Galaxy, and Black Panther fighting alongside the likes of Doctor Strange and Spider-Man. Let’s see what everyone makes of it.

The GuardianIn theory, all these superheroes crammed into one movie should trigger the law of diminishing returns and the Traveling Wilbury effect. And yet somehow in its pure uproariousness, it works. It’s just a supremely watchable film, utterly confident in its self-created malleable mythology. And confident also in the note of apocalyptic darkness.

Variety – The ending is so audacious that you realize it’s all an elaborate card trick. Despite what it shows us, these movies are rarely about more leading to less. Count on the sequel — due one year from now — to demonstrate that more, in the MCU, will lead only to more.

GamesRadar – Any complaints are small fry in a film this bold, ballsy, satisfying, and dramatic. For delivering on fan expectations that have snowballed during 10 years of the MCU – and doing so with wit, pace, and surprises aplenty – Infinity War deserves a huge, bejewelled high-five.

Digital Spy – It’s epic, sure, but if anything, it’s too epic. The characters are too many, the action too massive, the stakes too high, the players too powerful. And at times, it’s like watching dominoes fall down – you can sit and watch, and enjoy the spectacle and the technical proficiency, but you know exactly where they’re going to land in the end.

Screen Daily – The Russos send the Avengers across Earth as well as other planets, constantly putting them in harrowing situations but also enjoying the novel friction that arises from such mismatched characters having to learn to work together. It’s been easy to criticise individual chapters of the MCU for being insubstantial… Infinity War pays off that patience and even leaves one waiting for what comes next.

So, there we have it. Will you be going to see it?

You know we definitely will.

Expect a review in the coming few days. But until then, maybe you want to see the latest Marvel esc thing that was just given a trailer? It was Venom, we’re talking about Venom.
