For years now it has widely been accepted that the star-studded and glamorous west-coast Coachella festival is ‘the’ festival of every summer. We’re talking huge acts, celebrity guests, massive media exposure, and Instagrams for days. Yet as of last week, it looks like there may be a hip festival newcomer ready to make a bid for Coachella’s summer festival throne.

Everyone is calling Panorama festival New York City’s answer to Coachella, which is held annually in California. As expected, the festival, which was held for the first time ever this year, had a competitive lineup with global stars such as Sia, Kendrick Lamar, A$AP Rocky and many many more taking to the stage. The festival took place in NYC’s Randall’s Island Park over the course of three days and was created by Goldenvoice who also produce Coachella and Hangout festival.

Despite some pretty big hurdles in its earlier stages such as a turf war and a petition to block the festival from happening, the weekend was a success and drew a huge young crowd looking to embrace Panorama’s mishmash of music, art, and technology. And just like its older sister Coachella, Panorama was not without its celebrity attendees. The festival’s star-studded guest list included a number of household names such as model best friends Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid.

Whilst the festival did not sell out, the organisers were more than happy with ticket sales and the turn-out, claiming that it had surpassed all expectations. Watch out, Coachella, you may have some slick new Manhattan competition on your hands, ready to knock you off your top spot!
