Is SWISH coming?

16 December 2015

It was in May when Kanye gave the original title of his forthcoming seventh album, at the time So Help me God. Yet here we are, at the end of 2015, and the album has not been released. In fairness, Kanye has been busy: from declaring that he will be running for president, to making speeches at Oxford University, to having a second child with Kim. Over the year So Help me God has changed names to SWISH, and seems to be nearing completion as Kanye tweeted on Saturday night:

In celebration, here are some of Yeezy’s best songs to date:

  • ‘Stronger’ – The song that made Kanye into a household name. Using synths and a Daft Punk sample, Kanye created one of his most popular singles, which also won a Grammy.

  • ‘Paris’ – Kanye is a huge fan of collaborating, especially with Jay Z: the pair made a whole collaboration album Watch The Throne. ‘Paris’ took the world by storm, winning two Grammys including ‘Best Rap Performance’ and when in Paris, Kanye and Jay Z performed the song 11 times in a row with the crowd not tiring of it!

  • ‘POWER’ – Kanye’s comeback single after the controversy of 2009 (including when he interrupted Taylor Swift at MTV Video Music Awards), POWER was hailed as one of Kanye’s best songs for years. Kanye himself reportedly claimed that the song took him 5000 hours to compose… a claim which seems to be a bit exaggerated, given that 5000 hours is just over 208 full days!

  • ‘All Day’ – The third song officially released by Kanye this year, ‘All Day’ is a solid Kanye song, combining hip-hop with heavy electronic elements. This track shows that he will be doing some rapping on SWISH (unlike the other songs released in 2015, ‘Only One’ and ‘FourFiveSeconds’).

  • ‘Blood on the Leaves’ – A track off the 2013 album Yeezus, ‘Blood on the Leaves’ is suitably cryptic. A slow introduction paves the way and leads up to an unexpected powerful drop, with Kanye, once again, using both old and new samples to great effect.
