Well, that’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever said.

Jared Leto, who recently starred in Blade Runner: 2049, is going to play Hugh Hefner, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Director Brett Ratner, Rush Hour, will helm the film, which still sounds like some time out.

Ratner told THR that Leto had come to him when the director obtained the film rights to Hefner’s story. Leto reportedly said ‘I want to play him. I want to understand him’. Yeah, because that worked so well for the Joker huh? But, Ratner believes Leto could excel at the role.

The Hugh Hefner movie is in very early stages, obviously, with Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment originally had the rights to Hefner’s life story in 2007 and Robert Downey Jr. was going to play Hefner. The rights then fleeted to producer Jerry Weintraub, who worked on Ocean’s 11, who picked them up for Warner Bros. RatPac Entertainment, owned by Ratner, picked up the rights when Weintraub died in 2015.

You never know, Leto might suit the role? I mean he’s already played one character with a history of objectifying women, why not another?
