Star Wars and Pacific Rim actor John Boyega has said he is ‘100%’ on board with inclusion riders. This is a clause where an actor can ask that projects have a diverse cast and crew. It was brought up at the Oscars when Frances McDormand talked backstage after accepting her award for Three Billboards.

Boyega was speaking at a screening of Pacific Rim: Uprising, his first film with a production credit. He said he was interested in his company using them in the future, calling them ‘fantastic’. He told BBC Newsbeat:

Pac Rim press ready!

‘We are redefining and reshaping the industry at the moment. A lot of the secret rules of Hollywood are unfounded and unlawful so to start including them [inclusion riders] makes our industry better.

Those who wish to defy [using inclusion riders], they’re held accountable. So, for me, I love that it’s happening.’

Black Panther’s Michael B Jordan also said he would adopt an inclusion clause for the projects made by his production company. He said he was committing to the use of a ‘diversity clause’ for all work made by Outlier Society.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s companies also promised to use them. Pearl Street Films have produced movies like Jason Bourne and Manchester By the Sea.

John Boyega’s next movie is Pacific Rim Uprising and is hitting theatres on the 23rd March.
