The box office total for Justice League is WB’s lowest yet in the DC series of movies. The films theatrical run ended on a total of $657.9 million, which is the lowest gross since DC’s first movie in the franchise, Man of Steel.

The Superman origin story made $668 million. The movie after that Batman v Superman made $876.3 million, with the numbers dipping slightly at Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman making $60 million less than BvS.

Justice League was doomed to fail from the beginning it seems, however. Snyder left the project in June of 2017, following a family tragedy. Batman v Superman was hit by negative reviews from critics and fans, as well as Suicide Squad. Justice League began shooting just after Batman v Superman, leading to speculation about the tone of the movie.

It was such a shame this movie fell short. The concepts were great, but the execution was just awful.

It was then changed completely when Avengers Director Joss Whedon stepped in place of Zac Snyder. The movie then went through extensive reshoots, to brighten the tone of the film. One criticism of the DC Cinematic Universe was it took itself too seriously. However, the act of forcing the film to be so different tonally left some with an odd taste in their mouth.

Many criticised the disparity between scenes and characters.

There are still several movies lined up in DC’s cinematic road map. Aquaman directed by James Wan is due out in November. Shazam is currently in production, with Dwayne Johnson starring as Black Adam and Wonder Woman 2 is due out in December 2019.

Suicide Squad 2 is expected to start shooting next year.

Along with all of that, there are several spin-off movies in the works currently too, including a Joker movie and a Flashpoint movie adaption, supposedly being helmed by the writers of Spider-Man: Homecoming.
