As you may know, Disney’s The Last Jedi hits cinemas on Sunday. As with all movies, the premiere releases early, allowing critics to get a look at the movie before anyone else. So, what was the reaction? Well…

Anthony Breznican, from Entertainment Weekly, said the movie is ‘not just about growing up, but also about growing old’ in a series of tweets. We’ve seen people come into power, but we’ve never really seen them lose it, so this should be a refreshing look at how broken the Jedi and the Sith are as a whole.

IGN’s Joshua Yehl was also pumped about the movie, stating:

It was highly unlikely that The Last Jedi would be anything less than great, given the two most recent Star Wars movies being massive commercial and critical successes. Comicbook.com’s James Viscardi went so far as to say this latest chapter is a new benchmark for the series.

It’s very likely that The Last Jedi will be the Empire Strikes Back of our generation. If you can’t hang on until Sunday, have a look at the latest trailer.

Recently, JJ Abrams was brought on board to helm the ninth film in the series. This is after the previous director Colin Trevorrow left the project earlier this year. Abrams said he wanted Episode IX ‘take viewers to places they haven’t gone’.

The Last Jedi hits cinemas on December 17th, starring Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher.
