Lib Dems make “Land Grab” on Labour Votes

As part of their party conference in Bournemouth today, the Lib Dems will make what has been described as an “unashamed land grab” for Labour voters, party leader Tim Farron says.

The party intends to position itself as a “credible” alternative to the Tories in the wake of Jeremy Corbyn’s election to the Labour leadership, although Mr Farron has played down possibilities that more moderate Labour MPs may be intending to defect in response to Mr Corbyn’s hard-left political views.

The party leader recently released a list of his ‘top priorities’, including rural communities, mental health, immigration, civil liberties and green economy. Another issue strongly addressed is the EU referendum, with Mr Farron condemning “David Cameron’s hokey-cokey diplomacy on Europe” and advocating a stance of “lead, not leave”.

Mr Farron replaced Nick Clegg as party leader in July, after the general election in which the party lost all but eight parliamentary seats.
