For those of you who watch Coronation Street and have done for a while, we have some rather sad news to depart. Liz Dawn, who played the part of Vera Duckworth, has died after 30 years on the show. Her family are grieving, ‘devastated’ after the death of the 77-year-old.

She died surrounded by family on Monday evening, in her home. ITV has said that everyone in the Coronation Street crew is heartbroken.

The played Vera from 1974 until 2008, where her character died, attracting 12 million viewers. Ver had been diagnosed with emphysema in 2004. She made one comeback in 2010 when she played her own ghost in the episode where her husband died and they danced one last time together.

Executive producer Kieran Roberts said:

‘Liz Dawn was a true Coronation Street legend, a brilliant actor and a wonderful person. Everyone lucky enough to have worked with Liz during her 34 years playing Corrie icon Vera Duckworth will remember her with huge affection.’

She won a lifetime achievement award at the British Soap Awards in 2008.

She brought joy and entertainment to our screens for many years and it’s sad to see her go.

She leaves behind four children, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, so Corrie isn’t her only legacy, right?
