Given the current state of the X-Men timeline, it’s understandable why Logan star Hugh Jackman, and director James Mangold want a little bit of distance from the main branch of films. Hugh Jackman recently revealed in an interview with DigitalSpy that Logan is in a “different universe” to the main series.

In the comics, the X-Men are no strangers to alternate timelines, so realistically it makes sense for this story to be separate from the rest. Plus, as Hugh Jackman’s last time with Wolverine, he said, “This was my last one, and they said make the movie you want to make. And so, Jim [Mangold] and I had this blank canvas and we wanted to make something really different. It’s not really beholden to timelines and story-lines in the other movies.”

It was also recently confirmed that the villain Mr Sinister will not appear in the movie, despite rumours he would be the main antagonist.

Logan might be shaping up to be the best Wolverine film yet, so it’s good to see Hugh and Mangold gave it the attention it deserved.
