Looking the Other Way

As some of you may know, a terrorist attack hit Mogadishu this weekend, taking the lives of over 300 people. The Somali capital was attacked on Saturday, after a truck, loaded with explosives, was detonated at the KM5 junction in Mogadishu, injuring more than 500 people.
People on Twitter have been pleading for media coverage, as rescue and recovery are still underway.
Some discretion is advised due to some of the language used here, however, I feel it’s important to get the point across.

At what point does hundreds dead in Mogadishu become a headline instead of Harvey Weinstein? #Mogadishu

The junction was located near government ministries and a hotel, meaning it was incredibly crowded. A terrorist group affiliated with Al-Qaeda has been blamed for the truck bombing. The Prime Minister of Somalia Hassan Ali Khair said:
‘They don’t care about the lives of Somali people, mothers, fathers and children. They have targeted the most populated area in Mogadishu, killing only civilians.’

Pay attention to attacks in Paris & Brussels & London. But also to those in Mogadishu & Kabul & Aleppo. They’re no less worthy of mourning.

While we all freaked out about a man destroying the lives of several women, there was no time to mourn 300 innocent people who lost their lives due to someone else’s misguided ideals. Be strong folks. Crappy things can happen simultaneously and this weekend is a prime example of that.
Doesn’t make it any easier to swallow, however.
