Finding the right make up for you can be difficult. Everyone is different – some people have dry skin, others oily or even ‘normal’ (whatever that is supposed to be). So, picking out make-up that lasts all day and feels comfortable to wear can often be a frustrating and expensive process. However, at B**P we have tried to make that ever so slightly easier for you by reviewing a couple of the top brands.

MAC is renowned for being a great make-up brand, with most celebrities promoting it, and many teenagers desperate to have a makeover for big events like prom. While there are many products to choose from, we will be reviewing the Studio Sculpt SPF 15 Foundation, selling for £25.50. This is a full coverage make-up, which claims to ‘instantly revitalise the skin’. One of the best things about this product is that it is great for applying when you’re in a rush, as one layer is enough for full coverage. There is no need to build up the foundation with layers, and you don’t need to use too much as it is fairly smooth and spreads well. However, it may be problematic for people with dry skin – it does not seem to last all day, and can appear patchy after a few hours.

RATING: 7/10

In comparison, Smashbox is a slightly less well-known company, which is better known for its primers than its foundation. From this collection, we have chosen to review Studio Skin 15 Hour Hydrating Foundation, selling for a slightly more expensive price of £29. Like MAC’s foundation, this claims to hydrate the skin too – and, in this case, it actually does. Lasting hours, it is perfect for those of you who have long days and don’t want to spend time reapplying your make-up every couple of hours. Unlike MAC, this foundation works better when you apply more layers – usually 2 works fine, or 3 for extra coverage. The only problem with this product is that it can appear quite heavy on the face, and although it does not dry up after wearing it for a while, it can appear slightly less smooth around areas that you touch the most.

RATING: 8.5/10

Overall, while MAC’s foundation is perfectly adequate for a short day, if you want something that lasts that little bit longer and doesn’t dry up as easily then Smashbox is the way to go.
