There is no denying that college or sixth form is a hectic time for any student, and with chaos comes stress and forgetfulness. It’s not unusual to totally forget about your uni application or to get yourself so stressed and confused about the form that you just did not do it. Some people procrastinate until it’s too late and then panic as though the world is over, but it really isn’t as bad as your tutors make out. Obviously, in an ideal world, it is best to just do it before the deadline but there are a lot of options out there for people who still want to go to uni.

- Check with your university. Most unis state quite clearly on their websites whether or not they consider late applications and the majority of them do.

- Clearing. This option is totally useless for competitive courses such as midwifery or medicine, but if you want a slightly less popular course at a less popular uni, there’s a good chance that you’ll find something suitable for you.

- Take a year out. You could always apply a year later and spend a year working or travelling. The advantages of working for a year would be a break from education, maturity and financial savings that you will need at uni.

- Accept that it may not be your fate. If you believe in gut feelings and destiny, you may believe that your missing of the deadline happened because it was just not meant to be.
