It seems as though work is always underway on the A1, so you’ll probably not be surprised to find out that plans have been revealed for 1.85m of improvements on Junction 61, near Durham.

Part of a multi-million-pound package of road improvements, this development is expected to create 270 homes and 3,750 jobs.

As well as this, improvements are planned for Derby, Oldham, and Taunton.

Altogether, the scheme, delivered by Highways England and in partnership with Durham City Council, is hoped to create 11,000 jobs and more than 4,000 homes.

According to Jim O’Sullivan, Highways England chief executive,

“The improvements are essential to accommodate the extra journeys the developments will create, and we will continue to use our Growth and Housing Fund to unlock further development sites around the country.”

The funding was introduced as part of the government’s £15bn investment in roads, and will hopefully contribute towards the wider area.
