Supermarket chain, Morrison’s, have been forced to apologise after beaming a bread advert onto the Angel of the North.

Antony Gormley, who designed the Angel of the North, has always wanted the sculpture to be isolated and unlit. It is unclear if Morrison’s had asked Gateshead Council’s permission for the stunt.

The advert caused outrage on Twitter with critics calling the stunt ‘cultural vandalism’. A spokesperson for the superstore added ‘We were trying something different which was meant to put a smile on people’s faces but clearly it wasn’t to everybody’s taste. We’re so proud of our northern roots and the last thing we want to do is offend anybody’.

It was a cheap shot by marking something that defines the North with tacky stale bread and a Morrison’s logo.
